Chlorine Removal

What is chlorine removal?

Chlorine removalAlmost all drinking water supplies are contaminated by a multitude of organisms, bacteria, and viruses. In addition, most drinking water that comes from municipal water supplies can be further contaminated by storage tanks, pipes, and even from water tables from where your water may be drawn.

Some contaminants can produce mild symptoms not unlike influenza which is, after all, caused by a virus. They can also cause severe illnesses and in some cases result in death. Thousands of deaths are directly attributed to contaminated water supplies every year. Most people affected are very young, very old, or very weak.

No one will argue that chlorine in water serves an important purpose. However, there can be negative effects of chlorine to the human body if you do not employ some type of chlorine removal after the chlorination process. Aesthetically, chlorine is the primary cause of bad taste and odor in drinking water. The good news is that chlorine removal is an easy process. Many products on the market offer chlorine removal filters however they require frequent replacement of filter cartridges.

In addition to being a water softener and dirt and sediment filter, the WaterBoss® Model 950 separates itself from conventional technology and becomes a chlorine filter through the process of adsorption. Activated carbon is a media for improving most taste and odors, and a form of carbon that has been processed to make it extremely porous. However, activated carbon provides a prime habitat for microorganisms to grow. Because of its adsorption, nonpathogenic microorganisms can be a nuisance and actually cause bad taste and odor. Therefore, a clean activated carbon filter is imperative or backwash and activated carbon media bed accordingly. With the WaterBoss 950, you never have to worry about replacing your filter – it’s maintenance-free.

Model 950 takes a comprehensive approach to chlorine removal. Chlorine removal begins at the point of entry, where your water supply enters your home. This means chlorine removal down to nominal amounts takes place at all faucets, showers heads, and washing machines.
